Bodoland Territorial Council executive member for health and family welfare, Arup Kumar Dey on Wednesday made a surprise visit to Udalguri Civil Hospital in Udalguri district.

He visited the 200-bedded hospital to inspect the quality of healthcare facilities being provided to the patients there.

Dey expressed strong displeasure over the irregularities at the hospital.

“We will take stern action against any negligence by doctors and medical staff in the hospital,” Dey said.

He also instructed the officials concerned to utilize the government funds and facilities being provided to improve the quality of healthcare in the hospital.

He also interacted with the patients and their relatives.

Dey also took stock of the availability of medicines in the hospital.

He also inspected the attendance register and later asked the Superintendent of the hospital, Sudhir Ranjan Dey to ensure that the hospital provides better services to patients.

He asked the hospital to issue show-cause notices to doctors who were not punctual in their duties.

“If the medical staff and doctors are not punctual strict departmental actions will be initiated against them,” said Dey

He also asked the hospital superintendent to report about the requirements of the hospital including lack of an adequate number of doctors and assured of addressing the problems of the hospital at the earliest.
