Guwahati is set to have bicycle renting services (BRS) and from now onwards people will be able to take rides across the city like other metros of India.

Four students based out at the city have come up with this first of its kind renting service—Aroha Bicycle—in Guwahati.

Aroha Bicycle will provide bicycles to people on rent that they can travel from one place to another for their work or for recreational activity.

“Our dependency on private vehicles is increasing day by day. So we have decided to find a solution which is an eco-friendly, efficient and healthy mode of transportation,” Aroha Bicycle said in a statement.

“Our goal is to make bicycles a premium mode of transportation in Guwahati. People can rent bicycles from us on hourly, weekly and monthly basis with a minimal charge,” it said.

Initially, people can rent bicycles from the city’s Uzan Bazar dock. Door to door delivery service will also be made available.

Aroha Bicycle has also planned to upgrade its service with GPS enables the lock system in the coming days.

When upgraded, the booking of a bicycle can be done through an Aroha Bicycle app.

Besides that, Aroha Bicycle is also promoting bicycles as an economic and eco-friendly mode of transportation.

To promote the usage of bicycles as a mode of transportation in the city, the startup is going to organize a bicycle rally in Guwahati on January 3.

The rally will be flagged off at Dighalipukhuri at 6.30 am on that day.
