Digboi BJP MLA Suren Phukan on Tuesday said that a tourism fair will be held at Nazirating in Digboi in Assamโ€™s Tinuskia district to promote the area as a tourist destination.

The three-day tourism fair is scheduled to begin on January 3 and will comprise of various cultural events.

Several local organizations, NGOs and self-help groups will participate in the fair that will highlight the need to develop the picturesque Nazirationg area along with the adjacent Duarmara Reserve Forest into a tourist spot.

Addressing the media, Suren Phukan said, โ€œI will continue working towards promoting and developing the Nazirating area as a hot tourist destination for domestic and foreign tourist โ€˜, said Suren Phukan.

โ€œThe Nazirating area with its beautiful landscape and rich flora is already a favoured picnic spot and we will install modern amenities while developing it so as to draw a steady flow of tourists,โ€ said Phukan.

The MLA also said that local people will be involved in different economically profitable activities to promote the area.

โ€œWe will utilise local resources for the benefit of unemployed youths and women of the region,โ€ he said.

Several MPs, MLAs and other relevant personalities like Jadav Payeng, who has been credited with single handedly raising a forest in Majuli will attend the tourism fair.
