A massive fire broke out on Saturday in Jalukbari in Guwahati, burning down more than 50 houses and damaging property.

No one has been injured in the incident.

According to sources, the fire broke out in the afternoon in the area adjacent to the Jalukbari flyover due to a cylinder burst.

More than 10 cylinders exploded under the impact, which led to the fire engulfing several houses within minutes.

Locals informed the police, who arrived on the spot at about 12:30 pm.

A total of 11 fire tenders arrived on the spot and firemen had to struggle to finally douse the raging fire.

“The houses were located very close to each other, which helped the fire to spread fast. Luckily no one has been injured,” said Amit Deb, a local resident.
