Meghalaya police on Saturday recovered a huge cache of ammunition from East Garo Hills district of the state.
This is the third such seizure in less than a week in the Garo Hills districts.
“Acting on a specific input about the presence of arms near Nongchram Rongdu village, close to the border with West Khasi Hills, a team of police raided the area. The ammunition were recovered during the raid,” said a police official.
The area is about 9 km from the Rongjeng Police station.
The ammunition are suspected to have been hidden by the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) whose presence in the region has waned.
“A case has been registered in this regard and search operations are being carried out to recover more arms and ammunition,” the official said.
