Police arrested three suspected drug smugglers with huge cache of tablets of contraband and 80 bottles of addictive Cough Syrup during a raid launched at Dhubri town in Western Assam on Wednesday evening.

Acting on a tip off, Dhubri police conducted a search near Dhubri Law College Road and arrested a drug peddler identified as Rakesh Das.

Police seized a laptop bag containing large numbers of contraband capsule and syrups from his possession.

Based on his confessional statement, the second raid was conducted subsequently in the house of Rahul Prasad at Jhagrapar area and recovered contraband capsules and syrup from his possession as well.

On the other hand, based on the inputs provided by them, another drug paddler was arrested who has been identified as Takir Hasen Khan.

Dhubri police has registered a case (no 1652/2020) under section 22(C) of NDPS Act and relevant sections of the IPC.

The arrested smugglers were sent to 14-day judicial custody on Thursday by a local court.
