A female rhino that got stranded near the Bulani forest camp under Kohora range of Kaziranga National Park early Friday morning died during rescue operations.
Earlier, Forest Department officials arrived at the spot and began rescue operations to free the rhino from the mud.
A team of veterinary doctors had also arrived at the scene to examine the physical condition of the stranded female rhino.
According to Forest Department officials, the female rhino was quite aged and had sustained some injuries making her very frail.
The veterinary team present in the location suspected that the female rhino might have injured herself during scuffle with other rhinos.
The female rhino died even as doctors had begun preliminary treatment of the injuries.
The forest workers were engaged in the rescue operation for quite some time trying to free the rhino from the mud using a JCB.
