The 65-year-old legendary guitarist was fighting cancer for a long time and finally succumbed to the disease on Tuesday, his son confirmed the news on Wednesday.

โ€œI canโ€™t believe Iโ€™m having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning,โ€ Wolf Van Halen twitted.

โ€œHe was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment Iโ€™ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ll ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop,โ€ he added.

The late guitarist was famous for what became known as โ€œfinger-tappingโ€ -playing the guitar with two hands, like a piano.
