CM Conrad Sangma.

The Meghalaya government has decided to set up a check gate at Umling in Ri-Bhoi district in two months.

The government has sanctioned a pre-fabricated structure for the check gate to save time and cost.

“We have sanctioned a prefab for the project and it would come up in 60 days,” chief minister Conrad Sangma said.

The details of the new project were discussed in a meeting held in Shillong on Saturday in the presence of chief ministerSangma.

Sangma said the government is trying to fast forward the project. He informed that the government has shelved an earlier project, which would have taken at least a year to complete, and taken up the new project in its place.

He further said the entry-exit check gate would come up in Umling and it would help in carrying out checking of visitors to the State.

The CM said that it is in everyone’s interest that the entry-exit point comes up at a “fast pace”.

He said said currently all the visitors are registered at the entry points at Byrnihat.
