The Nagaland government has decided to enforce the odd-even system of vehicular movement within Dimapur town and NH-29 till Chumukedima town from October 5 till October 31.
Dimapur commissioner of police Rothihu Tetseo passed an order on Saturday which stated that on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday only vehicles with registration number ending with 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 will be allowed to ply.
On every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, vehicles with registration number ending with 2, 4, 6, 8 and 0 will be allowed to ply.
The restriction will not be enforced on Sundays while the category of vehicles under essential services will be exempted.
The order further stated that government servants on bonafide government duties and vehicles involved in providing essential services involved in COVID-19 related duties will also be exempted from the purview of the restrictions on the production of relevant documents and valid ID proof.
Two-wheelers will also be exempted from these traffic restrictions.
All heavy vehicles except those engaged in four-lane construction work with a valid permit will be restricted from plying within the town area and highway area from 9 am to 3 pm.
Tetseo said violation of the aforementioned order will be penalised under Section 177 and 179 of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988.
He appealed to all citizens for cooperation in this regard in the interest of public safety.
