Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president and Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora along with several other state Congress leaders including former forest minister Rockybul Hussain on Wednesday were arrested in Guwahati for protesting against the SIP examination paper leak incident and demanding for a high-level inquiry into it.
The Congress leaders were arrested while they took out a rally and were on their way to Assam Secretariat from the Manbendra Sarma Complex in Dispur, Guwahati.
Barricades were put in place to stop the Congress leaders from taking out the protest rally.
Bora, however, tried to break such a barricade and when he did not stop even after repeated warnings, police finally arrested him.
Around 500 Congress workers joined the protest rally who were also arrested and then taken to 4APBN Headquarters in Kahilipara.
“Neither CID can be trusted nor can CBI be trusted. Today, CBI has just become a puppet of the BJP government,” Bora said before being arrested.
“The SI recruitment scam must be investigated by the High Court,” he further added.
“Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, under whom is the state home department, should resign on moral grounds,” Bora further said.
