With 12 people tested positive for Covid-19, the state reported Covid-19 cases for the second time on June 1.

Since then the state has been witnessing a spike in Covid-19 cases, prompting the state government to announce a complete lockdown in Aizawl city area and 10 other district headquarters during June to contain the spread of COVID19.

In a sequence of nationwide lockdown, the state also observed state-wide total lockdown till May 31.

Between August 16 and 23, a complete lockdown was again clamped in Aizawl city area and again partial lockdown between September 10-20 to expedite contact tracing and sample test following the surge in locally transmitted cases in Aizawl city area.

So far, 1,786 people have tested positive for the virus in 6 months.

On June 30, Mizoram reported a total recovery rate of 80.70%.

Recently, the state government issued new guidelines regulating contact tracing and sample tests.

The guideline said that priority will be given to those primary high-risk contacts in terms of sample test and samples of secondary contacts will be tested only if the primary high-risk group with whom they came in contact are diagnosed with the virus.

Primary low-risk groups (who have contact with positive patients but have less chance of being infected) will not be tested unless they develop symptoms of Covid-19, the guidelines said.
