At least 46 people, including 14 Border Security Force (BSF) Jawans in Mizoram, have tested positive for novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the state’s tally to 1,759, official sources said on Thursday.
33 cases were reported from Aizawl district, 11 from Lunglei district and 1 case each was reported from Serchhip and Mamit districts, according to an official statement by state Information and Public Relations department.
Of the 33 patients in Aizawl district, 31 people including 8 females have contracted the virus through positive contact during contact tracing between September 16-21 and 5 of them were working at a shopping mall in Aizawl, the statement said.
Out of 14 BSF jawans, 11 are posted at Lunglei, 2 in Aizawl and 1 in Serchhip district.
14 BSF jawans and a state resident have come from other states, it said.
All the patients comprised 38 males, including a 5-year-old boy, and 8 females were asymptomatic, the statement said.
There are 664 active patients in the state while 1,095 people have already recovered from the virus and the recovery rate is 62.26 per cent.
Mizoram has not reported any fatality due to Covid-19 till date.
The first Covid-19 case was reported in the state on March 24 with a 52-year-old man having travel history abroad, who was discharged after 45 days of intensive care.
