Police on Saturday seized five tractors trucks loaded with sand and gravel during an anti-illegal mining drive in the Dhubri district on Saturday.

Dhubri Police, led by superintendent of police Ananda Mishra, launched the drive and sealed three illegal sand & gravel mahals (mining depot).

While one of the mahals was detected at Uttar Maragadhar under Agomoni police station two others were detected at Kumarganj and Bagdoghra under Tamarhat police station of the Dhubri district.

“All the three illegal sand & gravel mahals, detected during the drive, have been sealed and steps have been taken accordingly,” said police.

The police have informed the forest department for further action from their end too.

The police also seized 5 tractors loaded with sands and gravels.

“An inquiry into the matter has already been initiated while further search and lawful action against more such mahals is on,” police said.

Sources said several tractors and trucks pass through the district every day and that Saturday’s drive was carried out on a specific tip-off.

Superintendent of police Ananda Mishra said: “Any responsible citizen having any information about such illegal practices may please Report to Local Police Station / Forest Officials or to SP Dhubri on 6026900357.”

On Friday, Dhubri Police busted an illegal oil depot in Gaurang Bazar under Golakganj police station of the district and three persons were arrested for running the depot.

In a similar drive, one tobacco-laden truck was caught in Agomoni which had a sticker that read “Essential Service Duty”.
