The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing of Assam police has arrested a Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) official in Guwahati on charges of accepting bribe to rectify name in the marksheet of a girl student.
According to police sources, the Vigilance sleuths on Friday caught SEBA assistant secretary Hemanta Deka red-handed while accepting bribe.

The SEBA official allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 from a person identified as Shiv Kumar Bhujel for rectifying the name in the marksheet of his daughter’s matriculation certificate.
However, Bhujel approached the Assam Anti-Corruption Bureau in the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption and filed a complaint.
He was expected to pay the bribe amount on Friday, and a trap was laid down by the officials.

Deka was then caught red-handed at SEBA office in Guwahati while accepting the bribe.
“The trap was successful and a total Rs 8,000 of promised trap money was recovered from the possession of the accused,” a senior police official said.
