A care home for elderly women was inaugurated in Nrayanpur to provide shelter to neglected, abandoned and abused women above the age of 60.

Named Prashanti Dham, the care home would be run by Dikrong Valley Environment and Rural Development Society (D-VERDS) under the Ministry of Social Welfare and Empowerment, in association with Department of Social Welfare, Assam.

The elderly care home was inaugurated at Borpothar in Narayanpur by Prabin Saikia, a retired professor of Bihpuria College on Friday.

A meeting was organized on that occasion which was chaired by Binode Krishna Sarma and was attended by Narayanpur BDO Iswar Prasanna Chutia, Dileep Bhuyan of Kherajkhat College and several others.

The elderly care home for women would house fifty inmates, the organizers said.
