In the ongoing battle against COVID 19, the Darrang district health department has suffered a major setback after the two topmost officials of the department tested positive in the last 24 hours.

The two officials have been are Joint Director Rupal Nunisa and the Additional Chief Medical and Health Officer (Addl CM&HO) Prashanta Goswami.both have tested positive.

Nunisa tested positive in the RT-PCR test, the result of which is received here on Thursday.

In the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), Nunisa, however, was tested negative.

“Looking at his health condition and age he has been shifted to GMCH,” said Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah.

Earlier, Prasanta Goswami tested positive. He is undergoing home isolation in Mangaldai at his Ward no 1 residence.

The first case of government medical officer being tested COVID positive in the district was recorded just after the Doctor’s Day celebration on July 1 and since then till Thursday, a total of ten medical officers of the district health department have tested positive.

Most of them were in long leave after recovery and some of them yet to join their service.

Besides, the regular medical officers, several senior officials serving in NHM, Darrang including its District Programme Manager (DPM), Nayana Parashar, District Media Expert (DME), Jahnabi Sarma and Ritika Kalita of RBSK have also tested positive thus severely affecting the normal public health service in the district.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday the district has recorded 51 fresh COVID positive cases taking the overall tally to 2818.

Out of these ten have expired, eleven remained untraced, 620 are still active admitted in different COVID centres or confined in home isolation and the rest 2177 have recovered.
