An earthquake during the wee hours of Tuesday woke up everyone in Manipur.
According to reports, the earthquake recorded at 2:39 am, and the magnitude was 5.1 on the Richter scale.
According to the National Centre for Seismology, the earthquake’s epicenter was along the India-Myanmar border, about 55 km east of Ukhrul.
There were no reports of any loss of life or damage to property, due to the earthquake, official sources in Imphal said.
During the last few months, the neighbouring state of Mizoram has been experiencing a series of earthquakes.
On August 27, three successive moderate intensity earthquakes measuring 3.6 to 5.3 on the Richter scale had hit Mizoram’s Champhai district within an hour.
According to the officials of the India Meteorological Department, the first quake of 5.3 magnitude, hit at 5.37 pm followed by tremors of 3.6 and 4.1 magnitudes at 6.16 pm and 6.47 pm respectively.
The epicentre of all the three quakes was also along the India-Myanmar border, about 35 km southwest of Champai, the district headquarters. Mizoram has recorded successive quakes since June 22.
