Pasighat (East) legislator Kaling Moyong on Saturday flagged off a cycle rally organized as a part of the ‘India Cycles4Change’ initiative from the Medical Chariali.
The India Cycles4Change Challenge is an initiative of the Smart Cities Mission, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Govt of India to inspire and support Indian cities to quickly implement cycling-friendly initiatives in response to Covid-19 and sustainable development.
The initiative aims to help cities connect with their citizens as well as experts to develop a unified vision and initiatives to promote cycling.
Accordingly, the Pasighat Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (PSCDCL) is also organizing several activities in the Pasighat Township to boost cycling culture among the citizens, promote it as an eco-friendly mode of transport and encourage active and a healthy lifestyle, an official press release said.
Among others, MLA Moyong, PSCDCL chief executive officer Sukhvinder Singh, Pasighat Municipal Corporation executive engineer Kipa Gagung, officers and staff of Pasighat Smart City participated in the cycle rally which culminated at the Gandhi Chowk.
The event also marked the National Sports Day celebration, the release added.
The centurion town of Pasighat is the only other town besides Arunachal Pradesh’s capital Itanagar to figure in the Central government’s Smart City Mission.
Besides being one of the oldest towns of the state, it is also the headquarters of East Siang district and is located around 264 km away from Itanagar.
