Morigaon Police on Tuesday arrested a person along with Rs 15 lakh cash while he was trying to hand over the amount to the district’s police chief.
According to reports, the arrested person has been identified as Mannas Ali, a resident of Moirabari area in Assam’s Morigaon district.
Reports said the man was caught red-handed by a police team, led by the Morigaon superintendent of police, Nanda Singh Borkola, along with Rs 15 lakh at the office of the SP while the person tried to bribe the district’s top police official.
A media report quoted the Morigaon SP as saying that the police conducted raids at five factories in the Moirabari area on August 8.
The police carried out the raids in the factories where jaggery was made illegally.
The police also seized items worth crores of rupees.
The report quoted the Morigaon district police chief as saying: “The owners of the five illegal factories were absconding and they were trying to give lakhs of rupees as bribe to manage me.”
“Today, a man came to my office with Rs 15 lakh cash which was kept hidden in a vegetable bag. I immediately informed my colleagues and senior officials and caught him red-handed,” the SP said.
The police seized the money after registering a case.
