Senior Tripura government officials on Friday informed that an official inquiry has been ordered after 130 villagers of Phuldungsei were found enrolled in simultaneous electoral lists of both Tripura and Mizoram.

Phuldungsei is a village situated along the Tripura-Mizoram border.

These villagers were found to be drawing various services and benefits of both the states.

An official of North Tripura district said that the names of these 130 Phuldungsei residents were recently registered in the electoral rolls ahead of Mizoram’s August 27 village councils polls.

However, these people were also enrolled as voters in Tripura for many years.

Meanwhile, Tripura’s revenue and fisheries minister Narendra Chandra Debbarma had asked revenue and finance secretary Tanushree Debbarma to inquire into the matter.

The minister asked the secretary to submit the report at the earliest.

Various tribal parties and associations have already agitated over the matter and urged the Centre and state governments to resolve it at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the former president of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee Pradyot Kishore Manikya had conveyed to Chief Minister Biplab Deb to deal firmly with the matter.

“Tripura’s territories are being taken away by Mizoram. It cannot be accepted,” he said.

It may be mentioned here that Tripura shares a 109-km border with Mizoram.

Several villages, which are mostly dominated by various indigenous communities, exist along its inter-state borders.
