If you are planning to cremate your near and dear ones in the new electric crematorium in Guwahati, then you might just get disappointed!
Why? As the new crematorium is yet to get a caretaker and moreover, the annual maintenance contract of the machine is also not yet done.
This was revealed by senior journalist Mrinal Talukdar via a tweet on Friday.
In a tweet, he said, “Tried to cremate the body of friend’s elder sister in the electric crematorium at Ulubari, inaugurated with a lot of noise on July 13, 2020.”
“Could not because Govt has not appointed a caretaker yet nor the AMC of the machine is done,” the tweet added.

Guess, the Guwahatians will have to wait for some more time before they can actually use the electric crematorium.
It may be mentioned here that the crematorium, since its beginning, has been in the news and that too for all the wrong reasons.
It was marred in controversy for its name after the state government decided to name it after prominent linguist, literary figure, critic and scholar of Assam late Dr Banikanta Kakati.
However, after a lot of protests, the name was changed and the nameplate was taken down.
