Sensation prevails after a rape convict, who is a COVID19 positive patient, escaped from the isolation ward of Rupnath Brahma Civil Hospital in Kokrajhar on Wednesday morning.

According to the superintendent of Rupnath Brahma Civil Hospital, the escapist has been identified as 27-year-old Sukto Murmu alias Sukla.

The rape accused and COVID19 positive patient was brought to the isolation ward of the Rupnath Brahma Civil Hospital on July 24 where he was undergoing treatment.

He escaped from the hospital at around7 am-8 am on Wednesday breaking the window of the hospital corridor.

Sukto Murmu was lodged at Kokrajhar district jail in connection with a rape case (No.112/20) registered at Dhaligaon PS under section 376D of the IPC on May 15, 2020.

He is from Santipara under Dhaligaon police station in Chirang district.

Senior police officials visited the hospital and took stock of the situation.

A manhunt is on to nab the rape convict.
