A junior engineer of Irrigation department in Assam’s Kokrajhar, Dilip Kr Ray (55) of Baldiabathan Shaktiashram under Dotma police station died in the wee hours at around 2 am on Tuesday at R N Brahma Civil Hospital, Kokrajhar due to COVID-19.

Sources from R N Brahma Civil Hospital said late Dilip Kr Ray was brought to the hospital at 11 pm on Monday after he complained of difficulty in breathing.

Sources also said Ray had chronic diseases of asthma, diabetes and high blood pressure and was engaged in duty at quarantine centre.

He died at around 2 am on Tuesday morning and Rapid Antigen Test was done after death and he was found COVID-19 positive, the hospital sources said.

Soon after getting the report of COVID-19 positive, many official staff of the hospital reportedly disappeared one after another from the hospital fearing spread of the virus.

Meanwhile, the Kokrajhar district has 51 active cases till Monday after 51 are discharged.
