Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday sought apology for his derogatory comments the Punjabis and Jats.

In a tweet on Tuesday, chief minister Deb said, if anyone is disappointed due to his statement, then he is sorry for that.

In a programme at Agartala Press Club on Sunday, chief minister Deb had said Punjabi and Jaths may have less intelligence but are very strong.

After his statement, the opposition parties in the national level lashed out at the Tripura CM for his comment on the two communities.

The chief minister has apologized for his comments.

He said he respects for all cultures and values the unity and diversity of India.

He also said the Punjabi and Jats played great roles in the freedom struggle of the country.

The chief minister said he also spent times with them.

He has many friends from these two communities, Deb said.

The apology came after two days of his statement saying: “Sardar, Jats have less brains and thus Bengalis may use their brains to defeat them….”

In last two-and-half years, this is for the second time that chief minister Deb had to do seek apology over his statement.

Earlier, he apologized over his comment on former Miss World Diana Hayden whom he said “unworthy to be Miss World”.
