Tripura on Sunday recorded the highest ever single-day spike of 223 new COVID19 positive cases, taking the state’s total to 2,892.
On Saturday, the state registered 171 COVID19 positive cases.
Out of the 223 new cases, 101 are BSF jawans.
On Sunday, a total of 4,175 samples were tested for COVID19, out of which 223 were found positive for the virus.
Confirming the news, Tripura chief minister in a tweet on the state’s latest COVID19 status said: “223 people found COVID-19 POSITIVE out of 4175 samples tested today.”
Out of the infected patients, chief minister Deb said, 6 were flight passengers and 30 came in contact of COVID19 positive patients,
The chief minister informed that 8 were “symptomatic” cases and 179 cases were detected positive during Antigen test.
“Among the total 223 COVID-19 positive, 101 are BSF personnel,” Deb tweeted.

Dhalai district in Tripura has reported the maximum number of the positive cases.
On Sunday, Dhalai district reported 88 positive cases.
While 46 positive cases have been reported from West Tripura district, 3 cases have been reported from South Tripura, 13 have been reported from North Tripura, 14 cases have been detected in Khowai, Gomati district has reported 34 cases, Sepahijla has reported 22 cases and 1 case has been reported from Unkoti district.
The last rituals of two COVID19 patients, who died of infection on Saturday, were held on Sunday noon at Battala crematorium in Agartala.
Meanwhile, 24 more COVID19 patients have been discharged from various district Covid Care Centres (CCCs) in Tripura on Sunday, the chief minister said in another tweet.
“Glad to share that 24 COVID-19 patients have been discharged today from various District CCCs after their test results came negative,” chief minister Deb tweeted.
