After a huge spike in community transmission in Jorhat on Wednesday, the district administration has imposed an indefinite lockdown from Thursday.
This time, the lockdown will cover the suburban areas as well.

The ongoing total lockdown, which was imposed from July 7-15 only covered the areas under Jorhat Municipal Board.
Deputy commissioner Roshni A Korati, who is also the district magistrate and chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) said under under section 34 of the Disaster Management Act 2005 the areas covered would be under the municipal board and extend to the suburban areas.
The suburban areas include Cinnamara Tiniali, Lichubari Chariali and Rowriah. Chariali, Ajanta bypass, Malow Ali bypass, Sarbaibandha bypass, Kenduguri bypass, JEC Gate, Garmur, JEC Campus, up to Jail Tiniali from AT Road through Sonari Gaon, Road No 1 and the area from Sadar Tiniali via Lichubari to Jail Tiniali including AAU Campus.

The order said the total lockdown on Saturday and Sundays in municipal and suburban areas would remain in force.
This time, however, grocery wholesale and grocery retail shops would be exempted from the purview of the lockdown.
Grocery wholesale shops would be allowed to open from 7 am to 12 noon and the retail grocery shops can remain open from 12 noon to 6 pm.
Home delivery of vegetables, fish, meat, fruits and fresh water would be permitted.
In Jorhat, 77 COVID19 positive cases were detected on Wednesday and the infected patients have no travel history.
It is reported that 25 doctors, interns, nurses, and other staff members of Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) and 3 employees of AG Nursing Home have been infected while 19 doctors, nurses and staff ,members of Jorhat Mission Hospital have been quarantined after a patient admitted to the ICU of the hospital tested positive.
The total number of active cases in the district now stand at 262 and 245 have been discharged.
