After a person succumbed to Covid19 on Sunday, another patient from Jorhat district lost his life due to the deadly virus at Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as 76-year-old Talebuddin Ahmed of Tiatabar in Jorhat district and he died at 3.30 am on Tuesday.
Jorhat deputy commissioner Roshni A Korati said Ahmed had been admitted to the JMCH on July 11 as a Covid19 suspect.
“He had history of cardiac problem, diabetes and hypertension. Later on, he turned out to be positive for Covid19 and subsequently he was shifted to the Covid ICU on July 12. Today, unfortunately he expired due to sudden cardiac arrest and respiratory failure,” the DC said.
A source said Ahmed, who lived near Bar Era Bhogpur Satra at Titabar, had gone to Guwahati recently for a heart check-up following an operation last month.
Jorhat recorded the first Covid19 death on July 12 when a 36-year-old businessman, identified as Ashish Sahewal, died of infection.
The deputy commissioner further said 44 new cases of Covid19 infections were detected on Tuesday, out of which 41 did not have travel history.
The total number of community transmissions in Jorhat now stands at 200.
The total number of cases in Jorhat is 436, out of which the number of active cases is 214.
Out of the 214 positive cases, 148 are admitted to the JMCH, 21 are admitted to 5 AFH and 45 patients have been admitted to Na Borachuk Model Hospital, the DC stated.
Those infected in Jorhat district include five traffic policemen, one doctor at Borholla and an employee of Jorhat Head Post Office.
