The BJP in Assam suffered a setback on Sunday as party legislator Shiladitya Dev announced his resignation from the saffron party.
Dev, who represents Hojai constituency in the state Assembly, said that he will formally resign from the party on July 14.
“I have been associated with the BJP for the last 30 years and during this period I never sought any important post in the party. And the party also has not offered me any position except for the post of spokesperson. Now we feel completely neglected. I have no importance in the party,” said the Hojai MLA.
He said the situation in the party is such that he might be killed if he continues to be associated with the party.
“The situation is such that I might be killed within 10-12 months. So I feel it is better to leave the party,” Dev said.
He said that he will not join any political party in the near future but continue to serve the people.
Dev, who became vocal against a section of state BJP leaders a few months back, further said that he failed to contact party president Ranjeet Dass despite repeated attempts.
“I have not got any response from the party president. So I have sent a WhatsApp message informing my decision about taking retirement from the party,” he said.
