The Arunachal Pradesh government has announced to extend the ongoing lockdown in the Capital Complex area for one more week in view of the prevailing Covid-19 situation.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu who took to Twitter to make the announcement said: “Had a virtual Cabinet meeting to assess the #COVID19 situation. To check the spread at the very initial stages, the lockdown of ICR has been extended till 20th July 2020.”

“Contact tracing will be intensified during this period, all citizens are requested to strictly follow the SOP,” he added.

The Capital Complex which consists of Itanagar, the state capital, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa and Doimukh under Papum Pare district is already under a weeklong lockdown since July 06.

The lockdown was imposed as a precautionary measure taking into consideration the sudden spurt in the number of Covid-19 positive cases in the region in the past one week.

The number of Covid-19 positive cases has, however, continued to rise in the Capital Complex despite the lockdown as it registered 28 new cases on Friday.

The Capital Complex region as on July 10 has a total of 114 active cases, the highest in the state.

Arunachal at present has 213 active cases, while 120 people have recovered from the disease so far. The state has registered two Covid-19 related deaths.
