This is the first case of a Covid-19 positive patient giving birth to a child in the state.

Health officials said that her swab sample was collected on June 29 at Chagolia Mass Quarantine Centre when she came from Siliguri.

On July 4 midnight, the woman was admitted to the health centre after she started having labour pain, where she delivered a baby girl at about 10 in the morning of Sunday.

As per the protocol, her one-day-old baby has also been tested for novel coronavirus now. Their test reports are awaited.

“This is first such case where a woman has been found positive and delivered a baby. We will have to follow all the protocols,” said a medical officer.

Meanwhile, the district administration has sealed the hospital and declared it as containment zone.

Eleven staff members including the doctor have been sent to home quarantine while the woman and her child have been admitted to nearby Moterjhar Model Hospital for the further treatment of Covid-19.
