A committee formed by Tinsukia district administration so far carried out a survey on 905 families affected by the Baghjan blowout in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district.
After the blowout at Baghjan 5 oil well on May 27, a large area was affected due to the continuous spewing of gas and oil.

After the blowout, the villagers left their houses and took shelter in relief camps.
Many houses were burnt due to massive fire in the Baghjan 5 oil well.
The blowout has also affected the entire eco-system of the Baghjan area and surrounding Dibru-Saikhowa National Park.

“Survey works carried out for compensation of the affected families due to Baghjan blowout and we have found 905 families till now and still the survey work is going on,” said an official at the Tinsukia deputy commissioner’s office.
“All arrangement for deluge water supply has been completed. However, we are not able to use a part of it as the area in the pontoon bridge side is inundated by floodwaters,” the OIL said.
Refilling water reservoirs is being carried out. Connection of suction and delivery lines of OIL CMT high discharge water pump placed near reservoir No.1 (12000 KL capacity) is in progress, the OIL added.
The OIL stated that while placing the firewater monitor, the Bulldozer got stuck yesterday near the wellhead and this hindered the progress of debris removal.
M/s Alert called off the operations at 9:15 pm on Saturday.
One 300 Ton Crane reached the site on Saturday and an attempt was made to pull out the stuck bulldozer after putting heat shields around the Crane boom. Fire tenders are operating to cool the Bulldozer to avoid damage to the same.
Air quality and noise level monitoring were conducted in Baghjan side while air quality monitoring was conducted in Guijan side on Saturday.
The monitoring team from M/s ERM visited Notungaon, Bebejia, and Motapung Panchayat offices for consultations.
The team also had a consultation with the medical staff of the Middle Primary Health Centre (MPHC), Barekuri.
M/s ERM’s study will be continued up to one week beyond the date of capping the well successfully, it added.
