Police on Monday arrested a woman cashier of Jonai Bahumukhi Samabai Samiti in Assam’s Dhemaji district on charge of misappropriation of credit money.

Dhemaji police arrested the cashier Bonti Mili (Tayeng), who was allegedly involved in misappropriation of credit money of Rs 1.30 crore in the Asom Bahumukhi Samabai Samiti Ltd, Jonai branch.

Arrested Bonti was reportedly absconding for a month, but the police finally managed to track down her and nabbed from Silapathar area in Dhemaji district on Sunday evening.

Police took her to Jonai police station and arrested her on Monday.

Jonai police produced Bonti before Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) at Jonai on Monday seeking three-day remand for interrogation. But, the SDJM sent her to 14-day judicial custody.

The police also seized a Bolero Car and a tractor owned by Bonti from her residence at Dimou under Silapathar police station in Dhemaji district.

Police earlier arrested one woman collection agent of the Samabai Samiti, Mausumi Doley (Pegu) in this case.

Police are also searching for the third accused Dipanjali Doley (Das), who is also absconding.

The police registered a case against them in Jonai police station (No. 47/2020) under sections- 420/406/464/34 of Indian Penal Code.

The investigating officer of the case said that they served notice under Cr PC to the accused to appear at Jonai police station for recording their statement, but they did not respond to police notice.

Sources informed that prime accused Bonti Mili sought ‘anticipatory bail’ from Gauhatai High Court, which was fixed for hearing on July 26.

Branch Manager of the Samabai Samiti, who lodged complaint with the police, stated that his cashier Bonti Mili (Tayeng) in collusion with field assistant Dipanjali Doley (Das) and collection agent Mausumi Doley (Pegu) misappropriated about Rs 1.30 crore credit money by manipulating financial statement.
