‘Run for sports’ – an initiative of the Sports Department to promote sports and develop sports culture among the younger generation – are being organized across Arunachal Pradesh.

As part of the initiative, a marathon was organized for both men and women in Hawai, the district headquarters of Anjaw, on February 19.

Deputy Commissioner Mamata Riba, who flagged off the marathon, spoke about the importance of playing sports in our daily life.

The winners of the race in the women’s category were Elushi Ngi, Dibanlu Bellai and Jinanlu Ngadong who bagged the first, second and third positions respectively.

In the men’s section, Nisamso Pul won the first position, followed by Bithemso Ngi and Ruwatso Tawsik in second and third position respectively.

A similar mini marathon was also organized in Ziro, the headquarters of Lower Subansiri district by the district sports office.

The 10-km race, which started from the government higher secondary school in Hapoli ended in Old Ziro.

The race was flagged off by EAC Mokar Riba.

The mini marathon witnessed participation of enthusiasts from all walks of life.

Mudang Omo and Tayo Rini won the race in the men’s and the women’s section respectively.

In Khonsa, the headquarters of Tirap, the mini marathon was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner PN Thungon.

Kokai Pansa of GHSS, Khonsa finished first in the men’s section, while Nyiniam Aboh of Kheti village emerged the winner in the women’s section. They took 43 and 48 minutes respectively to complete the race.

The event was organized by the State Sports Department in collaboration with individual district administrations.
