Troops of the Indian Army in separate operations, launched with Arunachal Pradesh Police and Assam Police, apprehended two insurgents, one of the NSCN (IM) and other of the NSCN (R) recently.

In the operation launched near Nginu village of Tirap district, the joint team apprehended a self-styled lance Cpl Mandem Pansa of the NSCN (IM) while one Rajapio Nongpong, a self-styled Sergeant Major of the NSCN (R) was picked up by the team from Ledo in Assam’s Tinsukia district.

Pansa is a resident of Nginu village while Nongpong is a resident of Deomali village.

Both villages fall under the Tirap district.

Defence spokesman Lt. Col. P Khongsai said both Pansa and Nongpong are suspected to have been actively involved in extortion activities.

One .22 pistol with magazine, three live rounds of ammunition, and a mobile phone has been recovered from Pansa while one Point 22 Pistol with magazine, four live rounds of ammunition, and two mobile phones have been recovered from Nongpong, Khongsai said.

The duo has been handed over to the police for further investigation.
