In the wake of rising COVID-19 cases in Delhi, the Jama Masjid in Old Delhi is likely to be temporarily closed down again.
This was said by Syed Ahmed Bukhari, Jama Masjid’s Shahi Imam, on Wednesday.
The mosque was opened only two days back after it was closed for visitors from March 25 due to the nationwide lockdown.
Bukhari’s his personal assistant for over 20 years, Amanullah (57), died at Safdarjung Hospital due to COVID-19 on Tuesday night.
“Amanullah was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital on June 3 after he had tested COVID-19 positive,” Hindustan Times reported quoting Bukhari.
Bukhari further informed that the deceased also suffered from heart ailments and was also had diabetes and liver ailment.
A message was circulated on Tuesday night seeking people’s opinion on the matter and most people are in favour of shutting down the mosque until the COVID-19 crisis gets over.
After the mosque reopened on Monday, around 200 people offered namaz.
