The overflowing water of river Singra has inundated a wide area of 20 villages in Nowboicha revenue circle of Assam’s Lakhimpur.

Incessant rain in the district and in the neighbouring hills of Arunachal Pradesh swelled the river whose water entered the villages through the open space of its embankment near the Singra village on Monday.

The flood waters of the river joined by various streams of stagnant water bodies inundated many houses, roads, fisheries, paddy fields and seedling fields in villages under Ranganadi and Nowbicha Gaon Panchayat.

The worst affected villages are – Gosaneebari, Chengeleejan, No 1 and No 2 Gelahati, Tokowguri, Ahomoni, Singra, Garchiga, Bongalchuk and Borpathar.

Meanwhile, in Dhakuwakhona sub-division erosion by river Charikodiya has panicked villagers in Sapekhati village.

The erosion has been devouring agriculture lands and also damaged a road in Sonari Chapori.
