An American aid worker, who created a ruckus and caused injury to a senior doctor in Shillong Civil Hospital, was tested negative for coronavirus.

Theodore Moallem, who works with the NGO Blind Lead Trust, Nongthymmai in Shillong, has allegedly coughed and spat at the staff on duty.

“He (Moallem) has been asked to remain in home quarantine as per protocols,” director health services (MI), Dr Aman War said.

Health minister A L Hek informed that the person (Moallem) had gone to Guwahati on May 26 to fetch a patient.

“After his return to Shillong on June 6, he was taken to hospital as he complained of cardiac problem, but was non-cooperative with the hospital staff. He also used abusive language at the hospital staff on duty,” Hek said.

When the foreigner was taken to NEIGRIHMS under police escort for further management, he resisted and during the process, the General Surgeon of Shillong Civil Hospital, Dr Isaac Syiem suffered grievous injury due to fracture on the right 5th proximal phalynx, for which, he will not be able to perform operation till healing occurs.
