The Meghalaya BJP has expressed displeasure over the ‘improper’ implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY) scheme in the state.

The Centre under the PMGKY scheme gives free rice 35 kgs for AAY beneficiaries, 5 kg per head for NFSA beneficiaries and 1 kg free dal per household for three months.

State BJP president Ernest Mawrie told reporters on Thursday that the Rs 20 lakh crore packages announced by the Central government would benefit the people in the country.

Mawrie also highlighted six major steps announced by Union finance minister, Nirmala Sitharaman for the revival of MSME sector in the country.

On the implementation of PMGKY for distributing free rice and dal, the state BJP president said that there were irregularities in few constituencies and the party has received complaints that there was short distribution of rice to the beneficiaries.

“We received complaints they (wholesalers and fair price shop dealers) charge extra money from the beneficiaries for transporting rice and pulse though the transportation cost has to be paid by the government. We also received complaints from Garo Hills on the irregularities related to distribution of free rice,” he said.

Mawrie said that after receiving the complaints, the party has written to the chief secretary on this.

He said that the party after reports from all the state coordinators of the party would take further course of action.

On people having ration cards, Mawrie said that the state government has already sanctioned Rs 25 lakh to each MLA from the MLA scheme, and they should take care of such families that did not have ration cards.
