United States (US) President Donald Trump said that the spread of coronavirus across the globe was either a terrible mistake on the part of the Chinese or it was probably incompetence.
“It (coronavirus) could have been stopped at the point. It could have been stopped right at the source. It would have been easy to do, but something happened. Something happened,” Trump on Thursday.
“Either they made a terrible mistake – probably it was incompetence. Somebody was stupid and they did not do the job that they should have done. It is too bad,” he added.
Trump had earlier cast doubt on the accuracy of China’s official coronavirus death toll claiming that the actual figures are ‘way ahead’ of the US.
He had also said that the US is not the world’s ‘number one’ country in terms of COVID-19 deaths.
He had also claimed that the whole world is suffering due to coronavirus and it could have been stopped in China before it started.
The US president had also halted the nation’s funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) after claiming that it is severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the coronavirus.
Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus cases in the US surged to 1,256,972 on Friday, according to John Hopkins University tally.
