Congress president Rahul Gandhi during his visit to Tripura on Friday, the last day of campaigning in the poll-bound State, lambasted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stating that the saffron party has been continuously ‘lying’ and makes only false promises.
The Congress president alleged that neither the CPI(M) nor the BJP pay attention to development.
With an aim to boost the Congress’ poll campaigning in Tripura, Gandhi on Friday addressed a public gathering at Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya Stadium playground in Kailasahar under Tripura’s Unakoti district.
Addressing the gathering, Gandhi asked the electorate to vote in favour of the Congress candidates stating that like the BJP, their party does not give false promises and whatever promises they give, they implement it.
Stating that the Congress does not make false promises like BJP, Gandhi said, “The BJP has been continuously lying and does not honour its promises made to the people,” adding, “They have been lying one after another whether it is the promise of depositing Rs 15 lakh in the bank accounts of the people or giving a remunerative price to the farmers or construction of roads.”
In the run-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP reportedly had promised that it would deposit Rs 15 lakh in the bank account of every citizen if it would come to power.
The Congress president also alleged that the BJP has assured the people of Tripura to pay Rs 340 as wage for MGNREGA if it comes to power, “but in Assam, it is paying Rs 184 as wages”.
Stating that lakhs of youngsters have remained jobless in the country, Rahul said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has never uttered a word about them.
Tripura is all set to go to polls on February 18 and the results for all the 59 Assembly constituencies in the State will be announced on March 3.
Stating that the people of the country have suffered a lot due to the impact of the demonetization and the GST, Gandhi asserted that the Congress would form government at the Centre after 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
He also claimed that the BJP has promised to implement the 7th Pay Commission recommendations for the employees Tripura and the same assurance was given to the people of Assam by it “but it has not implemented the 7th Pay Commission recommendations in Assam”.
Hitting out at the government led by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, the Congress chief said that during the rule of the Left Front government, Tripura has remained backward.
On his arrival, Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee president Birajit Sinha along with others welcomed the Congress president with a garland on the stage.
