Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaigns in Bomdila circle in West Kameng district have been intensified by the IEC Core Committee beginning Wednesday.

The initiative comes following the return of students studying outside and people stranded in various parts of the country in hundreds to the district and the probable chances of infection thereby, an official press informed.

Moreover, the Central IEC Committee would be conducting intensified campaigns in all the 14 administrative circles of the district.

These would be carried out in collaboration with the respective administrative officers, medical and police officers, gaon burahs and local organizations and individuals.

Underscoring the importance of social distancing, IEC chairperson Gocham Taga elaborated on the core issues and urged the people to religiously follow the do’s and don’ts and also highlighted PM Narendra Modi’s 7-point plan to win the Covid-19 battle.

Laying special emphasis on the social stigma associated with the virus, Taga said discrimination against frontline workers, people affected or recovering from COVID-19 and certain communities and areas should be done away with in order to facilitate the emergence of a community empowered with health literacy.

Urging not to be complacent with the state being in the green zone and the relaxations thereby given by the government, Taga reiterated on the importance of disseminating information and taking necessary precautions in the wake of people returning back to the district and villages.

He further called upon the gram preraks, gaon burahs, community bases and youth organizations to play a pro-active role in carrying forward the message in their respective local dialects as the district has six different indigenous tribes, the release added.
