The Mizoram government has declared that the state free of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), as its lone patient has recovered.

The state’s lone patient was a 50-year-old pastor who had visited the Netherlands and he tested COVID-19 positive on March 24.

He was the second COVID-19 patient from the northeast after a 23-year-old Manipuri girl tested positive.

State health minister R Lalthangliana informed that all the four samples of the patient that were collected in the last 24 hours have tested negative.

“He is likely to be discharged from the hospital by the end of this week,” Lalthangliana added.

“Mizoram can be declared as COVID-19-free state as we don’t have a single patient,” Lalthangliana added.

He further informed that 1,366 people are lodged in various quarantine facilities in all the 11 districts of the state.

Mizoram is the fourth state from the northeast, after Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Nagaland, to have no COVID-19 positive case.
