Manipur Police have detained a total of 24,436 individuals and seized 17,351 vehicles for violating lockdown norms and curfew in the last 40 days, said police.

The nationwide lockdown has been imposed in Manipur as a preventive measure to contain the spread of COVID19.

The police have also collected an amount of Rs 23,04,690 as fines during the lockdown period from March 25 to May 3.

Among all the districts, Thoubal district police have detained maximum number of lockdown violators and seized maximum number of vehicles.

A total of 7,705 violators along with 4,918 vehicles were detained during the lockdown period in Thoubal district, said sources.

Thoubal is followed by Imphal West district with 5,251 violators and 3,922 vehicles while in Bishnupur district, 4,274 violators were detained and 2,585 vehicles seized.

In Churachandpur district, a total of 1,158 lockdown violators were detained and 859 vehicles seized.

Churachandpur district was followed by Kangpokpi district with 413 violators and seizure of 335 vehicles.

In Tamenglong district, 226 violators were detained and 38 vehicles seized.

Thoubal district police collected a total of Rs 6,66,890 as fine while Bishnupur and Imphal West districts collected Rs 4,57,190 and Rs 2,79,430 respectively.

During the same period, Churachandpur district police collected a total amount of Rs 93,000 while Tamenglong and Kangpokpi Police collected Rs 44,400 and Rs 19,550 respectively, sources said.

As part of the ongoing drive to prevent the spread of COVID19, Manipur Police on Sunday detained 1,007 lockdown and curfew violators, and seized 753 vehicles, additional director general (L/O) L Kailun said.

The lockdown violators were produced before the magistrates concerned and fines of Rs 97,970 were imposed.

ADGP Kailun warned that those, who violate the lockdown/curfew, shall be dealt with strong legal action under the National Disaster Management Act 2005.
