A local BJP leader along with at least 20 others was booked on Thursday for violating the lockdown norms in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh.
The men allegedly were involved in organising a cricket match amid the lockdown.
“We received a tip-off that a cricket match was played amid lockdown at Panapur village in Tikaitnagar area of Barabanki district,” the police said.
Adding further the police said, “The cricket match was organised by violating the lockdown norms, where over 20 people gathered for the match.”
“Once we received the information, the police reached the village and stopped the match immediately,” it added.
“Along with 20 others, we also booked a local BJP leader Sudhir Singh for organising the cricket match,” the police further said.
The police further informed that an FIR under Sections 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of any disease) and 188 (disobeying regulation) of the Epidemic Act was lodged against Singh, his family members and some other people from the village.
