A Bangladeshi woman, who had visited Tripura recently, was found to be COVID-19 positive when she was tested back in Bangladesh after she returned.

This has sent panic waves in Tripura with higher authorities running from door to door and carrying out ‘contact tracing’.

Speaking to Northeast Now, Tripura COVID-19 surveillance officer Deep Debbarma said, “After we came to know that the Bangladeshi woman had tested positive for COVID-19, 11 persons from a family in Aralia area in Agartala were sent to quarantine.”

“The 70-year-old woman visited Agartala on January 27 and returned to Bangladesh on April 7. She stayed here at her relatives’ place in Aralia,” Debbarma said.

“Upon reaching Bangladesh, she was sent into quarantine by the Bangladeshi authorities and when her quarantine ended on April 21, the authorities took her swab sample and they found her COVID-19 positive,” Debbarma added.

“The Bangladeshi health officials informed us about the report last night at around 11:30 pm and we immediately went to Aralia and sent her 11 relatives to quarantine,” he further said.

This is the second such case when a Bangladeshi national, who had visited Tripura, tested positive for COVID-19 on his return to Bangladesh.

In another report from Melaghar of Sepahijala district, one person with his family had come from Bangladesh and he stayed at his relative’s house.

The family returned to Bangladesh on April 6 and they were quarantined there.

“However, when tested, one of the family members was found to be COVID-19 positive. The family in Melaghar was also quarantined,” Debbarma said.

“We are maintaining close contact with the Bangladeshi officials,” Debbarma added.
