Since the COVID-19 outbreak in the country, at least 37 police personnel, including eight officers, across Maharashtra have tested positive.
“These policemen that include 29 constables and 8 officers may home come in contact with COVID-19 patients while they were on their duty,” said a government official on Saturday.
“Most of these policemen are from Mumbai,” the official further said.
The official further informed that around 52,625 offences have been registered against those found violating the lockdown orders.
“So far police have arrested 10,729 people,” the official added.
“Moreover, around 102 cases of assault on police have also been registered and the police have successfully arrested 162 persons accused of assaults,” the official said.
Police also successfully apprehended 563 persons for they were found moving out despite the lockdown orders.
“For breaking the lockdown protocols, the police have seized 33,984 vehicles and also collected a fine of around Rs 1.91 crores,” the official further said.
