The Imphal west district administration in Manipur distributed relief materials to 10,360 verified stranded migrant workers.

The administration provided relief materials including rice, dal, salt and cooking oil to the migrant workers in the wake of the COVID-19 lockdown.

In the district, 1,285 workers have also been given shelter and food by employers/industry where they are working, said an official press release.

The migrant workers are mostly engaged as daily wage earners, barbers, rickshaw pullers among others.

More than 200 employees of the district administration and volunteers from Red Cross, Nehru Yuva Kendra among others, helped the Imphal West District administration in providing assistance to the needy ones.

Free rations were also provided to children’s homes, old age homes and rehabilitation centres.

The district administration provided assistance to a total of 18,824 households and 3,402.60 quintals of rice under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana on April 12, while another 195.75 quintal of rice to 2,123 families for the district under the open market sale scheme.
