Aarogya Setu app may soon act as an e-pass and may allow people to move around during lockdown.

The move will also increase the appโ€™s download in smartphones, which in turn will help the government gather more COVID-19 data from different areas.

โ€œEmpowered Group constituted for Logistics and Secretary Consumer Affairs have to take the call as many States have systems to issue the e-passes,โ€ Hindustan Times reported quoting a senior government official.

โ€œThere have been suggestions to build in this functionality in the Aarogya Setu App โ€“ the idea is good and technical feasibility of the same is being worked out,โ€ the newspaper further reported.

The official, however, said that it is not sure as to when will this be made official.

The Aarogya Setu app uses a personโ€™s smartphoneโ€™s location data and Bluetooth to check if a person has been near, or have been in contact with a COVID-19 patient.

The app was launched on April 2 and since then it has already crossed 10 million downloads.
