The Ahmedabad civic body has made it mandatory for people to wear masks in the city.

As per reports, the civic body said that from Monday onwards if someone is found outside without a mask, then he will be fined Rs 5000 or sentenced to three years in jail.

As per reports, the order has been issued under the Epidemic Diseases Act in an attempt to control the spread of coronavirus which has infected 266 people in Ahmedabad.

Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra said that people find without masks would be fined Rs 5000 and those failing to deposit the fine would have to spend three months in jail.

“From 6 am on Monday, everybody in Ahmedabad city municipal limits will have to wear mask mandatorily when going out in public places,” he added.

He also said that people can wear any kinds of masks and the rule will be applicable for anyone venturing out in public places.

The city civic body has also taken a unique initiative of hiring five persons who have recovered from the coronavirus infection to work as volunteers at a care centre set up for asymptomatic COVID-19 patients.

The initiative has been taken patients recovering from coronavirus are much likely to have developed immunity to the virus and their chances of getting infected are much less.
